This three week itinerary is one of our most popular combining Machu Picchu with the extraordinary Uyuni Salt Flats and the fantastic scenery of the Atacama Desert. We can book a range of accommodation to suit most budgets; please discuss extensions with us.
Highlights: Machu Picchu – Lake Titicaca – La Paz – Uyuni Salt Flats – Atacama Desert
You will be met on arrival and driven to your hotel. Lima is our gateway to the marvels of Peru and you won't have much time to explore the city. Larcomar in the Miraflores district has some great restaurants, shops and cafes with a view over the ocean which, together with nearby Parque del Amor, is very popular with Limenos at dusk.
Cuzco - Sacred Valley
Transfer to the airport in time for your flight to Cuzco. On arrival you will be met and driven to your hotel in the Sacred Valley. Afternoon tour of Ollantaytambo.
In the morning there will be a short excursion to the salt pools at Maras which have been used since pre-Inca times. We would be delighted to discuss other excursions and activities such as local markets, a zipwire adrenaline experience or a visit to one of the social projects supported by the Latin America travel industry.
A full day tour to Machu Picchu travelling by train from Ollanta station to Aguas Calientes and by bus to the Inca citadel. Guided tour of the site is included. Overnight at a hotel in the local village or, if funds and availability permit, at the only hotel next to the ruins. For keen walkers we can arrange a 4-6 hour trek to take in the last part of the traditional Inca Trail and arrive at Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate.
Free morning to return to Machu Picchu or to explore the market in the local village. Afternoon train back to the Sacred Valley with onward transfer by road to your hotel in Cuzco.
The capital of the Inca empire is a gem. Your half day guided tour will show you some of the wonders of Cuzco, including the amazing fortress of Sacsayhuaman which overlooks the city. Free afternoon for your own activities but please let us know if you would like to arrange anything special for you: cooking, mountain-biking, riding or perhaps simply dinner and a show.
Travel to Lake Titicaca
Travel to Lake Titicaca. The Andean Explorer train runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays with an additional service on Fridays between October and April only. Otherwise there is a daily bus service. We will arrange transfers between your hotel and the bus or train station at each end accordingly.
Full day excursion out on Lake Titicaca to the Uros Islands and to either Taquile or Amantani.
Isla del Sol
The journey from Puno travels via Copacabana and then by hydrofoil or catamaran to reach the Island of the Sun. Overnight in a local hotel.
Continue across Lake Titicaca and through the altiplano to arrive at La Paz.
Half day tour of La Paz with special insight into the city with the help of a shoe-shiner for part of the itinerary. The tour continues to the Moon Valley. Free afternoon.
Uyuni Salt Flats
Fly to Uyuni and travel into the salt flats via the remarkable island of Incahuasi with its guiant cacti before continuing to Aique Pucara fort and Tahua. Overnight in a salt hotel.
Salt Flats - Villamar
Continue across the salt flats and enter the highlands and valley of Alota seeing the impressive stone formations before continuing to Villamar.
Spectacular full day's journey via Laguna Colorada, the hot springs and Dali Desert to reach Laguna Verde before crossing into Chile and transfer to your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama.
San Pedro de Atacama
Half day excursion to the Moon Valley; free afternoon to explore San Pedro in your own time.
Very early start (4am) for this full day excursion to reach the El Tatio geysers at dawn; visit the picturesque village of Machuca during the return journey.
Free day for your own excursions and activities.
Fly Santiago and transfer to your hotel. The Chilean capital is a modern metropolis against a backdrop of the Andes. The Barrio Brasil is a lively area of bars, restaurants and cafes.
Half day tour to Concha and Toro vineyard in the Maipo Valley. The Concha y Toro vineyard was founded in 1883 and is now Chile's greatest exporter of wine.
