Amazon River Expedition Cruise

A 7-night luxury expedition cruise on the world’s mightiest river and its important tributaries, the Marañón, the Ucayali, and the Puinahua taking in hidden black water lakes, islands, rainforest reserves and local villages.

There are regular departures (usually on Saturdays) throughout the year but the itinerary may change according to local conditions and low- or high-water seasons. Day 1

Arrival at Iquitos and embark on your luxury cruise ship.

Aqua Expeditions have highly experienced river pilots and the most rigorous cruise ship standards to ensure smooth travel and safety on the waters of the Peruvian Amazon.

The Aqua Amazon has 12 luxurious suites, four of which can be interconnected for families. This ship is soon to be renamed the Aqualina.

The Aria Amazon has 16 design suites for a maximum of 32 passengers, together with a crew of 26.

Aqua Expeditions have announced that a third 20-suite Amazon River cruise ship will start operating in 2017. This ship will be named the Aqua Amazon and the current ship with this name will be called the Aqualina.

Day 2

Excursions to the Yarapa River and Pacaya Samiria

Morning excursion by skiff from the Amazon to the Yarapa River, keep your binoculars ready to spot terns, tropical songbirds, black collared hawks and sloths.

Afternoon excursion to Nauta Caño, part of the Pacaya Samiria Reserve, also known as the Forest of Mirrors. Toucans, macaws, and iguanas abound in this part of the rainforest.

Day 3

Pacaya Samiria and Marañon River

Morning excursion on the Yanayacu - Pucate River in Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, home of capuchin and squirrel monkeys as well as Amazon River dolphins, either pink or gray.

In the afternoon sail along the Marañon River; short hike on land.

Day 4

Community visit and excursion to Nauta

Meet and interact with local villagers in this remote part of the world and learn about their traditions and folklore.

Nauta is the main point where villagers from around Amazonia come to sell the products they harvest in their rural communities. Visit the local market, where guides will be able to point out the different fish caught by the fishermen of Amazonia, and the variety of indigenous fruits.

Day 5

River Expedition Ucayali / Yanallpa - Dorado River

Morning excursion by skiff to explore a fascinating black water stream, part of the vast Amazon flooded forest within the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.

In the afternoon we journey through the "Jungle of the Mirrors," where towering trees are reflected in the dark river. We move on to the Dorado River where you may observe parrots, macaws and a variety of primates.

Day 6

Pacaya River

A full-day excursion along the Pacaya River, observing and exploring the flooded forest of this vast region of the Peruvian Amazon including some of the most beautiful lakes in the protected reserve.

Day 7

Clavero Lake
Sail on to Lake Clavero where villagers continue to use traditional dugout canoes. There is an option to swim in the lake’s calm waters and/or visit the local community.

Once back on board, the ship will continue its journey down stream, sailing toward Iquitos through the night.

Day 8

Bellavista Nanay - Manatee Rescue Centre - Iquitos

Visit the traditional market of Bellavista Nanay, to see products from the Peruvian Amazon including exotic snacks such as Suri, an Amazon caterpillar which lives in palm trees,

Upon disembarkation at Iquitos there will be a tour of the city which includes the Manatee Rescue Centre, to rescue orphaned manatees, rehabilitate and release them back into the wild. The tour includes a short stop at the San Juan Amazonian Indian Market to purchase any local handicrafts before continuing to the airport.


The route and excursions may be varied according to low and high water levels in the Amazon rainforest and conditions locally.

Shorter Amazon cruises are also available for three or four nights.
