Land of the Incas

This two- week itinerary offers an insight to the diversity and variety of the Peru.  Extensions can be arranged to include the Ballestas Islands or a few days in the Amazon jungle.

Highlights: Lima – Arequipa – Colca Canyon – Lake Titicaca – Cuzco – Sacred Valley – Machu Picchu

DAY 1:

Fly to Lima. On arrival you will be met and driven to your hotel. Lima is our gateway to the marvels of Peru so you won’t have much time to explore the city.

DAY 2:

Half-day city tour of Lima, including the historical centre which has been much restored over the last two decades, Larco Mar and the modern area of Miraflores. A fine introduction to the capital!

DAY 3:

Transfer to Lima airport in time to check in for your flight to Arequipa. Afternoon tour of the city including a visit to the Santa Catalina convent, a walled five acre site in the heart of the city which was hidden from the public for centuries.

DAY 4:

Explore the Colca Canyon and witness its unspoiled villages, Inca terraces and bridges. The Colca Canyon, which is deeper than the Grand Canyon, is an excellent vantage place to see condors, vicunas, llamas and alpacas.

DAY 5:

Go to deepest point of the canyon (Cruz del Condor or Condor Crossing point) for spectacular views and the best place to see condors rising in the early morning. Continue from the Colca Canyon to Lake Titicaca.

DAY 6:

Full day trip on Lake Titicaca to the floating Uros Islands and to Isla Taquile. Here you can gain a fascinating insight into ancient customs and traditions which have been maintained into the 21st century.

DAY 7:

Travel to Cusco onboard the luxurious Andean Explorer train, or a bus transfer if budgets are tight. If you would prefer to fly then please let us know

DAY 8:

Morning tour of Cuzco to visit the main highlights of the city, including the Plaza de Armas, cathedral and Sacsayhuaman, the impressive fortress which overlooks the city.

Free day in Cuzco. Optional activities available include a visit to the artists and artisans in the craft workshops of San Blas, cooking lessons and adventurous activities such as white-water rafting, riding or mountain biking.

DAY 10:

Transfer to and tour of the Sacred Valley. See a selection of: the ruins and market at Pisac, the fortress at Ollantaytambo, the salt pools at Maras and the Inca agricultural research centre of Moray. Overnight in a Sacred Valley hotel.

DAY 11:

Full day excursion by train to Machu Picchu. The journey is two hours each way and once you arrive you will enjoy a tour of the citadel and an included lunch. We can also offer a further one-day Inca Trail to hike to Machu Picchu, arriving through the Sun Gate.

DAY 12:

Travel back to Cuzco and transfer to your hotel. We will arrange the transfer and any activities according to your preferences. You may want to spend the morning in the Sacred Valley to explore further and then travel back to Cuzco in the afternoon, for example.

DAY 13:

Fly to Lima and overnight here. The Larcomar centre is a good place to do any last minute shopping before you fly home.

DAY 14:

Departure transfer to the international airport in time to check in for your transatlantic flights home or onward flight elsewhere. Farewell Peru!
