This two-week tailor-made itinerary provides a superb introduction to Peru and is ideal for the first-time traveller to Latin America.
Highlights: Lima – Amazon Rainforest – Cuzco – Sacred Valley – Machu Picchu – Lake Titicaca
We can adapt it to include the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu or to travel from Lake Titicaca into Bolivia to fly home from La Paz. Other visitors may want to include Arequipa and the Colca Canyon. If you have more time, why not extend it with a week in the Galapagos Islands?
Fly to Lima. On arrival you will be met and driven to your hotel. Lima is our gateway to the marvels of Peru so you won’t have much time to explore the city.
Fly from Lima to across to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your jungle lodge, your base from which to explore the fascinating surrounding rainforest.
Days to enjoy the excursions and activities on offer in the jungle, such as alligator spotting by flashlight, walking tours through primary and secondary rainforest, birdwatching.
Fly to Cuzco, the capital of the Inca empire. On arrival at Cuzco airport you will be met and driven to your hotel. Situated at 3310m high, you may need a free afternoon to acclimatise to altitude.
Half-day tour of Cuzco, taking in some of the key sites. These include the cathedral, the Plaza de Armas and Sacsayhuaman and the impressive Inca fortress overlooking the city.
Explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The trip includes excursions to villages and local markets, and sites of particular interest such as Ollantaytambo.
Day at leisure in the Sacred Valley to further explore or take up an additional excursion such as mountain biking, trekking or even white-water rafting.
Travel to the iconic Machu Picchu – Latin America’s foremost site and a UNESCO declared World Heritage Site. Stay in a hotel next to the site.
Free morning to return to Machu Picchu if you wish or to explore the markets of the local village, Aguas Calientes. Afternoon train back to the Sacred Valley and transfer to your hotel in Cuzco.
Take the journey from Cuzco to Puno either by road or by train. The journey offers great chances to see llamas and alpacas against a backdrop of fantastic Andean scenery.
